Quiet Village Book Release

Quiet Village, by Miami-based artist Beatriz Monteavaro, is the latest book to be released on writer/artist Gean Moreno’s [NAME] Publications imprint, and this Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30, Sweat Records will be hosting the release show for it.

With this latest release, you have what seemed to be a charmingly tattered and rough around the edges sketchbook loaded with drawings, some collage work, and some fragmented musings (including what seems to be obscure playlists for cassette mix tapes) by the artist, all photocopied and bound onto a glossy print format. It serves as something of a diary of images, or a peek into someone’s personal drawing-book. Along with the book comes a CD by Monteavaro’s group, Beings, for whom she plays drums. The band’s ambient soundscapes over layers of pummeling primitive rhythms, is meant to be listened to as you flip through the drawings, which seem to evoke creepy and roughly-rendered sub-tropical b-movie imagery.

Copies of the book/CD hybrid will be available on Saturday and Beings will be on hand as well for a live performance. Also performing will be Boise Bob and his Backyard Band, which will feature none other than Miami-filmmaker Clifton Childree, who coincidentally will be the next artist to release a book for [NAME].
