The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit celebrates five years

By MOCAD Staff

The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is proud and excited to be celebrating the art and cultural hub that it has become in Detroit and Midtown in just five short years.

On Friday, October 14th, MOCAD will be throwing a layered, artful and otherwise fun-filled party, inviting anyone and everyone who has cared about, visited or been curious about the Museum.  Both current exhibitions, barely there (part two) and Stéphanie Nava: Considering a Plot (Dig for Victory), will be open for viewing through most of the evening.

VIP ticket holders will have access to a not-so-silent auction, dinner, unexpected occurrences from Carbon Arts, Dr. Cyclops, InsideOut Literary Arts Project, LaMarre and Dancers, and Princess Dragon Mom/Cloud Bridge, in addition to a year-long membership to the Museum. General admission ticket holders will see great performances by Ze Dark Park with special guests Prussia, DJ Brian Gillespie and HAUTE to DEATH DJs Ash Nowak and Jon Dones.

For further information about the evening and for tickets, please visit http://mocadetroit.org/benefit2011.html. While we are preparing for this special evening, the Museum will be closed during the day, but will open for the festivities beginning at 7 pm.

Additionally, three of MOCAD’s Midtown neighbors are celebrating by way of offering special MOCAD-themed menu items throughout the week:

  • Cass Café: MOCADwich. Mushrooms, Onions, Cherry Chutney, Apples, Dandelion and Wild Greens on Rye
  • Motor City Brewing Works: Rotating Pizza Special. Starting October 10th for the week, changing daily
  • Avalon International Breads: MOCAD Salted Caramel Mocha. Sweet and a little salty, just like the artists we love!

We hope you’ll join us in the celebration of this exciting milestone!
