Locust Projects’ signature fundraiser event “Smash and Grab” is here

By Chana Budgazad Sheldon, Locust Projects

One part raffle, one part kickin’ party, the Locust Projects celebrates the 9th year of their annual “Smash & Grab” fundraiser. South Florida art collectors will convene at Locust Projects’ Design District gallery space for a slice of the action on October 29 where participants buzz with anticipation as their raffle numbers are called , inspiring a race for work from some of the top artists working today. This event, Locust Projects’ single largest fund-drive, fuels the organization’s innovative exhibitions and programs for the coming season.

With over 115 artworks by local, national and international artists including Daniel Arsham, Justin Beal, Friends With You, Marie Lorenz, Jillian Mayer, Matthew Ronay, Ruben Ochoa, and Agustina Woodgate the atmosphere will be electric as attendees compose their wish lists and anxiously wait for the raffle to begin.

Here’s the skinny:

  • Every raffle ticket purchased for the event is guaranteed a piece of artwork.
  • Work can be previewed from October 21-28 at the gallery–make your wish list early!
  • Tickets are drawn at random during the party, with the winner getting their choice of artwork (i.e, first called gets first pick, and so on).
  • Michael’s Genuine Food Cart and Misha’s Cupcakes will be on hand to nourish participants and spectators.

Event participants mingle among the artists, who love to watch the competitive excitement. The result is a fun way to place artwork into collections, connect with Miami’s art community, and support Locust Projects. Drinks will be provided by by Palm Bay, Mandarine Napoleon, Societe Perrier and Grolsch. Music will be by DJ Hottpants.

As a hallmark that makes Locust Projects stand out from other art venues, Locust Projects embraces cutting-edge exhibitions and innovative installations. “The quality of the artwork we received this year truly demonstrates that artists and galleries recognize the importance of an organization such as Locust Projects in the community. We greatly appreciate their support and can, because of their generous donations, move into our 14th year stronger than ever! says Locust Projects Executive Director, Chana Sheldon. The “Smash and Grab” event is Locust Projects’ largest source of revenue for the year.  The proceeds provide essential funding for exhibitions and programming.
