Welcome to National Arts and Humanities Month

Posted by Valerie Nahmad

The White House has officially proclaimed that October is "National Arts and Humanities Month" (NAHM). Let the celebrating begin! Held every October and coordinated by Americans for the Arts, NAHM is billed as "the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation." President Obama issued a proclamation recognizing the value of the arts, saying specifically:

"Millions of Americans earn a living in the arts and humanities, and the non-profit and for-profit arts industries are important parts of both our cultural heritage and our economy...We must recognize the contributions of the arts and humanities not only by supporting the artists of today, but also by giving opportunities to the creative thinkers of tomorrow. Educators across our country are opening young minds, fostering innovation, and developing imaginations through arts education."

Americans for the Arts suggest three ways to Celebrate NAHM

  1. Participate Locally, click here for a map and list of events happening throughout the country, insider tip: some of the projects are Knight Arts Challenge winners
  2. Follow the Action, connect via Twitter (@Americans4Arts) to learn about featured events & Creative Conversations
  3. Spread the Message, visit the Arts Action Fund page and post to your Facebook & Twitter accounts
