November at the Akron Civic Theatre

By Val Renner, Akron Civic Theatre

The month of November has been a productive one for the Akron Civic Theatre.

On November 6, 2011 The Firestone High School Theatre Dept presented School House Rock Live, Jr. The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs came to life on the Akron Civic stage with an estimated 350 people in attendance. On November 16, 2011 Local crooner, Michael Sonata, will bring the spirit of Frank Sinatra back with his cabaret performance of Michael Sonata: A Tribute to Old Blue Eyes. And on November 19, 2011 the Warren Miller Skifest and movie, “…Like there’s no tomorrow” will be shown on the big screen to attendees. This event has become a tradition to the local skiers who faithfully await the arrival of winter and the thrill of the snow.

To round out the month of November, Ballet Theatre of Ohio takes to the stage with its locally produced version of the Nutcracker. This particular Nutcracker has been performed at the Akron Civic Theatre for more than 10 years and has become a holiday tradition for most.
