Exploring the future of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company

What happens to choreography after the dance ends? Miami Herald reporter Jordan Levin probes this issue in a recent audio piece about Merce Cunningham and his namesake dance company. Produced in partnership with WLRN, the story explores the legacy and future of the legendary choreographer’s work, noting: “Though Cunninghman focused on the here and now, he wanted his dances to live on. His company, however, will end with this last tour. Making sure his dances don’t also disappear is an enormous challenge.”

“You don’t have this thing that you can hang on the wall, put on your desk,” notes dance historian and Florida State University professor Sally Sommer. “it’s like you’re passing on air.”
