Art Public opening night at the Bass Museum

Get ready for My Barbarian (horde) to invade the Bass Museum lawn for Art Public Opening Night next week with their kitsch theater antics when they perform an excerpt from “Broke People’s Baroque Peoples’ Theater.” My Barbarian is a Los Angeles-based performance collective formed by Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon and Alexandro Segade, whose aesthetic philosophy tramples upon our culture’s obsession with excess and our questionable tastes.

My Barbarian.

Before My Barbarian, Jason and Alicia Hall Moran open the Art Public with “Air,” a musical performance that fuses jazz with operatic elements. Alicia Hall Moran is a Broadway musical actress and mezzo-soprano, and Jason Moran is a pianist-composer and artistic adviser for jazz at the Kennedy Center. Preview their work, “Bleed,” which was created during a five-day residency at the Whitney Museum.

The multifaceted Los Angeles-based artist Alex Israel will close Art Public with a ‘surprise’ performance titled “Miami, 2012.” Israel, who is also the founder of Freeway Eyewear, uses multiple platforms, such as gallery spaces, the Internet, television and boutiques to communicate his artistic vision. During opening night, Israel will create a spontaneous performance culled from our entertainment-obsessed culture.
