Open Studio and Artist-in-Residence performance at Inkub8

As the last graffiti artist packs up her spray cans and the glittering stilt walkers make their final stint down NW 2nd Avenue in Wynwood, Inkub8 is gearing up for its Open-Studio series this Friday, December 14th at 8:30 p.m., and its Artist-in-Residence performance event scheduled for Saturday, December 15th at 8 p.m. Both events will help Inkub8 match their Knight Arts Challenge grant.

On Friday, December 14th, the Open-studio series will feature short performances by Miami’s creative cadre — Oscar Fuentes, Celeste Fraser Delgado, Claudio Marcotulli, Carlota Pradera, Matthew Taylor and Jenny Larsson. Each artist is given time and space to perform their work-in-progress and after the event there’s a feedback session on process and production between artists and the audience. Suggestion donation: $10.

On Saturday, December 15th, Inkub8 will host an Artists-in-Residence performance event featuring their 2012 artists—Niurca Marquez, Shaneeka Harrell, Antonia Wright and Alexey Taran. The artists will reprise excerpts from their work and film developed during their Inkub8 residency. After the event, as usual, Inkub8 will open the floor for audience-artist interaction with an open forum. This event will help raise matching funds for Inkub8’s Knight Arts Challenge grant. Cost: $25. For more information on this event or to purchase a ticket, visit http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=aa8e2664960f392f7b19ebc3d&id=1ac3de4f76.

What makes Inkub8 an incubator of the arts is its (open-studio) residency program. The program offers local artists time, space and a stipend to create, to experiment and to explore their craft. In exchange, the artists teach classes for the public and show their work-in-progress at the end of the residency. The residency attracts performance based artists who are hybrid experimentalists, movement junkies, physical theatre addicts and soundscape masters. If you’d like to apply for a resicency, the deadline is this week, December 12th, 2012. To apply, visit http://www.inkub8.org/Inkub8/Residency.html.
