O, Miami tattoos Miamians at the Broken Shaker

If you ever wanted to get a tattoo while listening to poetry, then rush over to the Broken Shaker on Friday, April 26th at 7:30 p.m., when Tom Healy and Kevin Young will read their poetry while tattoo artists from Ocho Placas Tattoo Company are on site creating tattoos. Tattoo artist Duke Riley, who collaborated with Healy on his new book, Animal Spirits (Monk Books), will also attend the reading to discuss their collaboration.

Tom Healy and Kevin Young will read poetry during tattoo sessions during O, Miami.

Healy, who is a writer, poet and chairman of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, is also the author of What the Right Hand Knows—finalist for the 2009 L.A. Times Book Prize. Duke Riley, who collaborated with Healy on Animal Spirits, is an artist whose drawings, mosaics, sculpture, installations and other work have been exhibited from the New York City subways to the rivers of Shanghai.

Kevin Young’s first book, Most Way Home, was selected by Lucille Clifton for the National Poetry Series. He has gone on to write six more books of poetry, including Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels (Knopf, 2011), winner of an American Book Award, and Jelly Roll (Knopf, 2003), a finalist for the National Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the Paterson Poetry Prize.
