The Ordway celebrates salsa & polka

By  Lori-Anne Williams, The Ordway

For Ordway’s Summer Dance series on June 20, Salsa was the name of the game – and we had a huge hit again this year.  Salsa fans had tables reserved in Rice Park before 5:00 p.m. Then at 6, a large crowd gathered for lessons by Manuel and Carmen Rubio. The dancing continued at 7:15 with live music from Salsa del Soul and was non-stop the rest of the night. It was a warm, humid evening with a light breeze, but that didn’t slow down the estimated 587 people gathered! For the Ordway, it was great to see many familiar faces and all ages enjoying the beautiful night and having a great time.

Polka Night is next in the Summer Dance series, this Thursday, June 27th!  DyVersaCo, a popular band that has performed at our Flint Hills International Children’s Festival and on our Summer Dance stage in the past, will be our featured band. Their 8-year-old son is a very talented drummer and plays with them quite often.  He has been featured on KARE-11, the local NBC affiliate.  The dance instructors for Polka night will be Darlene and Stan Wandersee, who were the instructors for the last Polka night.
