VocalEssence announces new assistant artistic director, Tesfa Wondemagegnehu

By Katrina Vander Kooi, VocalEssence

After a global search through which we received more than 60 applications, VocalEssence is proud to announce that we have hired our first-ever Assistant Artistic Director, Mr. Tesfa Wondemagegnehu (one-dim-AWG-knee-you). Tesfa joins VocalEssence from Orlando, Florida, where he was director of choral activities at Freedom High School. He will serve under Artistic Director and Founder Philip Brunelle, and Associate Conductor and Vocal Coach Sigrid Johnson.

In his new role, Tesfa will help us expand our artistic vision, provide programmatic growth opportunities and spread our reach nationally. Tesfa will officially join us in late summer, in time for the start of the organization’s 45th season.

During Tesfa’s five-year tenure at Freedom High School, he was named Orange County Public School Teacher of the Year. Click to Watch the story on YouTube. Want to learn more about Tesfa and the Assistant Artistic Director position? Check out our full press release here.
