The Locust Art Builders (LAB)

The Locust Art Builders (LAB) is an innovative and intensive three-week arts program for High School students. The goal of the program is to foster the development of their creative capacities, as well as develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and communication skills. LAB was developed by contemporary art space The Locust Projects. Visual artists Monica Lopez de Victoria of the TM Sisters and Loriel Beltran will lead 25 students from 17 different high schools from across South Florida through the process of putting together an art exhibition from A–Z. The program also takes students to visit local art and cultural institutions and provides them face-time with local artists working in various fields.

LAB pushes students to access their potential through project-based learning. It also encourages them to embrace risk, experimentation and vulnerability. The program culminates with a collaborative exhibition managed and executed by the students during Second Saturday Art Walk.

Public opening reception is this Saturday, July 12th 7–10 p.m. Closing reception, Saturday, August 16th, 7–10 p.m. For more information, visit www.locustprojects.org/#1.
