Culture Shock celebrates its 10th season of making culture accessible to South Florida youth

One of the most important missions of Culture Shock Miami is to make art and cultural events affordable for young audiences. For $5 a ticket, 13-22 year-olds can attend music, theater, dance and performing arts by local presenting companies. Culture Shock Miami also offers students two-for-$5 or free admission passes to local museums, landmarks and cultural destinations in the area. Tickets for the current season are on sale now.

The 2014-15 season will feature a total of seven theater, dance and/or musical performances, which will be held at South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay. On October 11th, Cultural Shock Miami will premiere its first full production: “The Intergalactic Nemesis: Target Earth.” Based on the the science fiction graphic novel of the same name, “The Intergalatic Nemesis” is a live-action stage production that projects panels from the graphic novel while actors perform the voices of the characters.

On Friday, January 23rd at 8 p.m., The Step Crew takes the main stage at the SMDCAC. Inspired by Celtic music, the troupe combines three dance styles—Irish Step, tap and Ottawa Valley step dancing. Canadian Lumberjacks of European descent inspired Ottawa Valley step dancing. They blended traditional European dance styles with French-Canadian styles and tap dancing. The result: well, you’ll have to come out and see. Sneak peek trailer: http://youtu.be/dJAfbWGCxlI.
