Knight Center Short Presentation from UMTV School Of Communication on Vimeo.

To test, measure and implement new global news techniques at the Knight International Media Center, with two Knight Chairs in residence

The University of Miami will establish a new, permanent Knight International Media Center, which will specialize in understanding how news and information crosses borders. Two previously endowed Knight Chairs at the university will be converted to Knight Chairs in residence at the center, specializing in visual journalism and cross-cultural communication. The Knight Chair in Visual Journalism will experiment with the impact of dynamic, multimedia visual communication in film, photography, illustration and graphics. The Knight Chair in Cross-Cultural Communication will take on the cultural issues of getting international groups of journalists to work as teams to cover the world’s most pressing problems. The center will develop demonstration projects that include innovative photojournalism exhibits and a non-verbal documentary, One Water, which shows the state of the world’s water supply. The School of Communication will add new media and global media courses to its curriculum. This project aims to raise awareness worldwide of under-reported stories of global significance.
