For free, open-source software that enables people to discover and syndicate the news and information that matters most to them within their social network. Part of Knight Drupal Initiative

This grant is part of the Knight Drupal Initiative. The foundation asked the Drupal community for its top ideas to improve this open source software platform. This grant focuses on the use of the software package for social networking, a hugely popular activity in the digital era. It will create a software application intended to make the sharing and receiving of information through social networks much easier. The grantee will develop free, open-source software that allows individuals to create and share a personal stream of information. This Drupal software application will be used on Orkut, Google's social networking platform. Orkut is the most used social networking platform in both Brazil and India, two of the world's most populous countries.

It is expected that the new Drupal application will allow people to easily distribute information they are looking for in their social network. It is expected to help individuals navigate through the enormous amounts of information on the web and their networks to find exactly what they are looking for. Ultimately this grant will increase the exchange of news, information and ideas on social networking platforms.

I've been a member of the Drupal community for about 5 years now. I've mostly participated in the Brazilian community. I've attended most Drupal-related events in Brazil and helped organize a few. I was the main organizer of DrupalCamp Foz 2011, where we had the honor to receive Dries Buytaert for the first time in Brazil, and where I put over 600 hours of my time to make it happen. More details about this event are detailed at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/186824. I've never attended a DrupalCon, although I have attended and helped organize the first DrupalSummit Latino 2011, in Lima, Peru, whose main organizer was Fernando Garcia. I'm very active in the Drupal Latin Community and I'm part of the committee working towards making the first DrupalCon outside of the North America / Europe axis happen, most likely in Sao Paulo on November 2012.
