To continue to engage Akron's emerging talent by connecting its diverse young business professionals with the local nonprofit community through Business Volunteers Unlimited
According to data from the Soul of the Community study, Akron has the unique challenge that young people actually move there for jobs but three years later still say that they don’t feel engaged in the community, which then decreases their willingness to stay.
Business Volunteers Unlimited / Center for Non-profit Excellence (BVU/CNE) proposes a systematic way to engage these would-be leaders in the community by training and placing young professionals in nonprofit board seats that are normally held by people 55 years and older.
To build the pipeline of young professionals, BVU/CNE will increase business member organizations and partner with over 900 emerging leaders of the Greater Akron Chamber’s Young Professional Network, Project Blueprint and The Urban League.
