The Chi-Town Daily News is an online newspaper written by and for Chicago residents. This grant will create a network of trained citizen journalists to provide coverage of local and hyperlocal news in each of Chicago’s 75 neighborhoods. The volunteer citizen journalists will report on topics of local and citywide interest, like school council meetings, police advisory group meetings and business openings. A core group of editors will train the volunteers and edit copy. The grantee will blog about the project, which aims to establish a model that can be replicated in other cities.
