DIA wins $250K grant for program to spread art around metro Detroit

From The Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Institute of Arts has received a $250,000 grant from the Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to continue the museum’s popular Inside|Out program through 2013.

Entering its third year, the program places high-quality reproductions of masterpieces from the DIA’s collection throughout metro Detroit, from city streets to parks, public libraries, municipal buildings and businesses.

The museum hopes to attract new visitors downtown to the see the original paintings after they’ve seen the copies. The program is also designed to deepen appreciation for art and strengthen ties with suburban communities that could help the museum as it gears up for a millage campaign later this year.
