Benoit Wirz was promoted to director of venture investments in 2014. He joined Knight in 2010 as director of business consulting.
Wirz manages the Knight Enterprise Fund, a venture fund that invests directly in early-stage startups that improve access to quality, useful information. He also helps advise Knight’s program staff and nonprofits in Knight’s portfolio on business issues.
Wirz is a founder of U.S. Global, where he helped take businesses from startup to profitability. There, Wirz identified, evaluated and managed investments in companies with valuations ranging from $500,000 to $10 million. He also served as vice president of strategic planning for a manufacturing company, U.S. Global Glass, and as vice president of business development for U.S. Global Synfuel, which invested in and developed energy companies and synthetic fuel projects.
Wirz completed his MBA at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and received a MA and a BA from Stanford University. He speaks French, Spanish and, on good days, Russian.
