E. Roe Stamps IV was elected as a Knight Foundation trustee in June 2006. The South Florida financier is a co-founder and managing partner of Summit Partners in Boston.

He is a member of the Audit Committee and the Investment Committee.

Before founding Summit Partners in 1984, Stamps worked as a partner at TA Associates and as a senior investment manager at First Chicago Investment Corp. He spent five years as director of Ameripath and seven years on the board of directors at the Pediatrix Medical Group.

He is a member of the board of trustees at the Georgia Tech Foundation, the University of Miami and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. In 2004, he was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the National Venture Capital Association for his work to engage the industry in public policy discourse and to raise awareness of venture capitalism’s contributions to the U.S. economy.

In recent years, Stamps and his wife Penny have made a number of significant contributions to higher education. Beneficiaries include the University of Michigan, Georgia Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School. Many of the donations were made by the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, where Stamps serves as treasurer and his wife as president.

Stamps received a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1967 and a master’s degree there in 1972. He received a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1974.
