Detroit shows its creative side in the Knight Arts Challenge – more than 1,400 times

When we launched the Knight Arts Challenge in Detroit, we knew we loved the creativity of the city’s cultural community, the quality of work, the way artists are helping to shape the city’s future block by block.

That’s why we were so excited to get an overwhelming response to the challenge. As of the Monday deadline, we had received 1,400 applications – the highest per capita amount of submissions we have received in the challenge’s six-year history across three cities!

This outpouring of ideas shows just how engaged the cultural community is in shaping the city’s future.

Now comes the hard part for us at Knight Foundation.

We’ll be taking the next few months to review the ideas with our panel of reviewers (most of whom are Detroiters involved in the arts.) We’ll announce a group of finalists this summer and winners in September.
