To support a funders collaborative in the Detroit metro region that will develop critical workforce partnerships between employers, workforce development agencies, community-based organizations and the philanthropic community

In Michigan, unemployment is the highest in the country at eight percent. Detroit’s rate is double that. This grant will support a funders collaborative which, matched by the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, aims to transform workforce development in Detroit. In particular, the collaborative will provide training for 500 residents a year to work in the health sector, Michigan’s largest employer. The group also will increase training and degree programs for entry level health employees and develop opportunities for immigrants by offering health-based English as a Second Language classes. The United Way, a lead agency, has invested in workforce programs for decades and recently included offering financial stability programs as part of its business model.
