A team of reviewers is meeting in Miami today to discuss the semifinalists in the Knight News Challenge on Data.

The 18 reviewers, who consist of journalists, researchers and experts in data and technology, will create a list of finalists for the challenge, which seeks to fuel ideas on how to make data work for individuals and communities.

This year’s Knight News Challenge on Data, which was open to anyone from anywhere, received more than 1,000 applications. The challenge closed Sept. 30, and Knight named 46 semifinalists on Oct. 21.

This team of advisers will work through the current list of projects throughout the course of the day. We will notify finalists on Friday, Nov. 6, and staff members will conduct in-person interviews with the teams during the next several weeks.

We will announce winners of the Knight News Challenge on Data on Jan. 25, 2016 at Civic Hall in New York. Winners will share in more than $3 million.

Thanks to the reviewers and to our collaborators on the challenge, Data & Society and the Open Society Foundations.
