The Florida-France Festival runs every day in April

The Florida-France Festival, or FLA-FRA, is a community-wide series of French-inspired events during the month of April. Produced by Tigertail Productions, FLA-FRA promises to bring elements of French culture to South Florida every day. Concerts, films, performances, pop-up culture clicks, food and a chasse au trésor (treasure hunt) will run throughout the month.

Nadia Beugré in “Quartiers Libres.”

Beginning on April 1, head to the beach for sunrise. Every morning at both the Haulover Beach Dog Park (10800 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) and at Pier Park (101 South Pointe Dr., Miami Beach), five-minute silent tributes will celebrate a significant artist–a musician, philosopher, painter, dancer, composer, writer and/or poet–from the French diaspora. An Eiffel Tower will mark the spot.

On April 24 and 25, join Ivory Coast-born dancer and choreographer Nadia Beugré for “Quartiers Libres.” The Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s On.Stage Black Box theater will be transformed into an exotic, limitless space occupied by Beugré’s desire to break the forces that seek to oppress her. What I was especially looking forward to, but won’t be in town to attend, is the treasure hunt. On Sunday, April 12th, from noon to 4 p.m., the hunt will take place at locations to be announced here on April 9. Participants will be divided into teams, and the winning team will receive dinner for two at a local French restaurant. Second and third place winners will receive VIP passes to FLA-FRA events.

And this isn’t all.

FLA-FRA is an extensive festival featuring live music and films. On April 11th, an “acoustic Louisiana trio” called the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band will perform, and “gypsy jazz guitarist” Adrien Moignard will bring his unique sound to Miami on April 17 and 18. Last but not least, a lineup of classic and contemporary French-language films are scheduled to be screened at the Miami Beach Cinematheque and the Miami Beach SoundScape at New World Center.
