To construct the Knight Early Learning Research Academy in Camden, offering a collection of model services for improving early childhood education, raising the possibility the Academy will set the standard for early childhood education in New Jersey.
The goal of this project is to develop a proposal that details how the early childhood literacy program of the Rutgers/LEAP early childhood initiative will be implemented over the following three years. LEAP will observe centers contracting with the Camden Board of Education and rate them using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS). Based on the ratings, LEAP will choose which centers to partner with during the pilot phase, and parents will be surveyed to understand their involvement and interest in center activities. As a result of this project there will be a plan for implementing and evaluating a comprehensive early literacy and leadership development initiative targeted at Camden early childhood centers.
